Reflexology is based on the principle that each part of the body is reflected in the feet, or hands, at specific reflex points and by using precise acupressure techniques, Reflexology encourages the body to respond toward equilibrium. It works on a similar premise to acupuncture in that it is based on the philosophy that meridian lines throughout our bodies allow energy to flow.
Reflexology works on many different levels; it is a holistic treatment taking into consideration mental, emotional and physical aspects which influence each other. My Menopause Support Reflexology treatment plan focuses on supporting both conventional and alternative approaches to the menopause, monitoring changes and progress as treatment continues.
Reflexology and Menopause
Reflexology is beneficial in helping to manage both peri- menopausal and menopausal symptoms including hormone level changes, energy and mood changes, stress and anxiety, sleep disturbances, digestive changes, temperature fluctuations, mental ‘fog’, fluid retention, memory, muscular tension and joint pain. The reflex areas of the body responsible for these functions can be precisely located and are focused on during a treatment.
Each treatment is tailored to your own health requirements but these are the main areas of focus:
- Endocrine system
- Ovarian and uterus reflexes
- Lymphatic system
- Immune system
- Circulatory system
- CNS (Central Nervous System – brain/head and spinal reflexes)
- Liver and kidney reflexes
Reflexology works best when coupled with healthy lifestyle habits in place including diet, exercise and relaxation. Some nutritional supplements and adpatogen herbal preparations can be useful during menopause – please consult a qualified herbalist or nutritionist for more information.
Menopause and Stress
The menopause is natural transition in a woman’s life, where our bodies undergo many changes. Fluctuating hormone levels can have quite a marked impact on our moods and emotions and these changes can often be stressful.
Reflexology is useful in reducing stress levels – the menopause journey can often last for many years and is physically, mentally and emotionally challenging. Sustained stress can sometimes disrupt the hormonal system, bringing added stress to the body. Reflexology can be beneficial in encouraging these systems toward a state of balance, helping to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.
